Welcome to day two at the IATUL conference! Watch the live streaming of the plenary sessions here: https://t.co/Ga3BkcKHjv The topics are information literacy and libraries for the future! #IATUL18Norway
— IATUL (@IATULorg) June 19, 2018
we start the 2nd day of #IATUL18Norway with a plenary talk by @Aslaks of @Nasjonalbibl on "libraries for the future". first lesson learned: the trees of norway don't have to be saved: they are well and there are enough of them — but what about the libraries? pic.twitter.com/Et6D6pEBZ3
— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018
some information about the digital library project "Bokhylla": @Nasjonalbibl: https://t.co/QkFftWIOp4 & https://t.co/RW4aCWlSgt #IATUL18Norway
— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018
but: digitization doesn't change that much for libraries, @Aslaks says: users still not use much of what is available, they mostly even don't know about it. the function of the library is not the catalogue or the knowledge it organizes, but: enlightenment! #IATUL18Norway
— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018
.@Aslaks ends his talk with a warning: the biggest danger is — the catalogue. libraries think "we are the catalogue", but they are not! the catalogue is a tool, nothing more; it can be replaced by google or other tools. so: libraries need to move to the content! #IATUL18Norway
— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018
Another great plenary at #IATUL18norway from @Aslaks of National Library Norway… “the function of the library is enlightenment”. Need to guide our users away from the various forms of present (social media) and back to the past through our digital collections.

but why does #CALP belong into the library? because of the target groups (students and staff) that need support in their academic work via different services — and as academic and information literacy are closely related, it's good to have it at the library. #IATUL18norway pic.twitter.com/kjFCAOaTpy
— viola voß (@v_i_o_l_a) June 19, 2018
and as @larsegeland adds: whenever there is a service needed that doesn't have a "natural home" at a faculty — could it be cared for at the library? and an argument by another colleague: it should be on "neutral grounds". #IATUL18norway
